What Is Inkless Stretch Mark & Scar Revision (also known as No Ink Stretch Mark Removal)?

Inkless Stretch Mark & Scar Revision (ISR) is a non-invasive, pigment-free treatment that uses fine-needle techniques and custom healing serums to support your skin’s natural regeneration process.

ISR helps to:

  • Stimulate collagen and elastin

  • Rebuild the skin barrier

  • Improve tone, texture, and hydration

  • Visibly reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks

Unlike camouflage tattooing or laser resurfacing, ISR doesn’t burn or mask the skin. It works with your skin's natural healing process to transform both tone AND texture for results that look and feel like you.

What Can ISR Help With?

ISR is ideal for:

  • Stretch marks from pregnancy, weight shifts, puberty, or binding

  • Post-surgical scars like top surgery, mastectomy, or C-section

  • Injury scars or trauma from skin conditions

  • Indented or raised areas, including those previously treated with lasers or ink

This treatment is effective for all skin tones, including:

  • Fitzpatrick I–VI (based on how skin responds to UV light)

  • Monk Skin Tone Scale (a more inclusive 10-shade spectrum used at OLIS SKIN to better reflect skin diversity)

At OLIS SKIN, we believe that inclusive care means adapting both our tools and our techniques—not just our language.

Gender-Affirming Scar Revision with Care

Some scars carry deep emotional weight—especially for trans and nonbinary clients healing from gender-affirming procedures like top surgery or body contouring.

  • Trauma-informed

  • Consent-led at every step

  • Affirming of identity, gender expression, and body autonomy

  • Rooted in compassion—not assumptions

What to Expect During Treatment

  1. Consultation: Nurse Jen discusses your goals, health history, and scar/stretch mark concerns

  2. Cleanse & Numb: Skin is prepped and numbed for comfort

  3. Treatment: A fine-needle device creates microchannels while infusing customized serums

  4. Aftercare: You’ll receive detailed healing guidance and product recommendations

Treatment length depends on the area(s) being treated. Most sessions last 30–60 minutes, and a series of 1–4 sessions may be recommended depending on severity and location.

Is There Downtime?

ISR is low-downtime and real-life friendly. Most clients return to normal routines right away.

You may experience:

  • Redness or sensitivity for 24–72 hours

  • Temporary dryness or itchiness as the skin heals

  • Avoidance of heat, sun exposure, or workouts for 2–3 days

  • Full healing takes up to 8 weeks

Keeping the area moisturized and protected is key to optimal results.

Inkless Stretch Mark & Scar Revision (ISR) – Comprehensive FAQ

What is Inkless Stretch Mark & Scar Revision?

Inkless Stretch Mark & Scar Revision (ISR) is a non-invasive treatment that uses a fine-needle device to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping to improve the texture and appearance of stretch marks and scars without the use of pigments or lasers.

What are other names for this treatment?

This procedure is also known as:

  • Inkless tattoo for stretch marks

  • Inkless stretch mark camouflage

  • Dry tattooing for scars

  • Non-laser scar revision

  • Scar needling

  • Stretch mark remodeling treatment

These terms describe similar techniques aimed at improving skin texture and tone without adding pigment.

Is ISR safe for all skin tones?

Yes, ISR is generally safe for all skin tones. At OLIS SKIN, we utilize both the Fitzpatrick Scale and the more inclusive Monk Skin Tone Scale to assess and tailor treatments appropriately. For individuals with deeper skin tones (Monk 7–10) or a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), a patch test is recommended to ensure safety and efficacy.

Who is not a good candidate for ISR?

ISR may not be suitable for individuals who:

  • Have stretch marks or scars less than 12 months old

  • Have active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area

  • Are prone to keloid scarring

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have autoimmune disorders affecting skin healing

  • Are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy

  • Have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the past 6–12 months

  • Have a history of hypo- or hyperpigmentation disorders

A thorough consultation with Nurse Jen will determine if ISR is appropriate for you.

Can ISR be used on scars?

Yes, ISR can effectively treat various types of fully healed scars, including:

  • Top surgery scars (FTM/N top surgery, chest reconstruction)

  • C-section scars

  • Mastectomy scars

  • Surgical scars from body contouring or orthopedic procedures

  • Scars from injuries or burns

However, ISR is not recommended for:

  • Fresh scars less than 12 months old

  • Keloid scars

  • Open wounds or recently inflamed areas

How much does ISR cost?

At OLIS SKIN, each treatment session is priced at $450 per section, with a section approximately the size of an iPad. The total cost varies depending on the number of sections treated and the number of sessions required.

How many sessions are typically needed?

Most clients experience noticeable improvements after 1 to 3 sessions, though some may require up to 4 sessions for optimal results. Sessions are typically spaced 6 to 12 weeks apart to allow for adequate healing between treatments.

How long does each treatment session take?

Treatment duration varies based on the size and number of areas being addressed. On average, a session can last between 1 to 3 hours. Nurse Jen will provide a more accurate estimate during your consultation.

Is numbing used during the procedure?

No, numbing agents are not used during ISR. The procedure is generally well-tolerated, with most clients reporting minimal discomfort.

What is the pain level associated with ISR?

Clients often describe the sensation as a mild vibration or light scratching, rating the discomfort around 2 to 3 out of 10 on the pain scale. Sensitivity may vary depending on the treatment area and individual pain thresholds.

What is the healing process like?

Post-treatment, it's normal to experience redness, swelling, and a sensation similar to a sunburn in the treated area. These symptoms typically subside within 24 to 72 hours. Complete healing can take 4 to 6 weeks, during which the skin's texture and appearance continue to improve.

What aftercare is recommended?

Proper aftercare is crucial for optimal results:

  • Hydration: Keep the treated area moisturized with a hydrating coconut or rose oil.

  • Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks post-treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen if sun exposure is unavoidable.

  • Physical Activity: Refrain from strenuous exercise, swimming, and activities that cause excessive sweating for 7 days after the procedure.

  • Skin Care Products: Avoid applying harsh chemicals, exfoliants, or active ingredients (like retinoids or acids) to the treated area during the healing period.

Is ISR suitable for gender-affirming care?

Absolutely. Many trans and nonbinary clients seek ISR as part of their gender-affirming journey, especially following top surgery or other procedures. At OLIS SKIN, care is trauma-informed, consent-led, and identity-affirming.

What areas of the body can be treated?

ISR is versatile and can be applied to various body areas, including:

  • Abdomen

  • Thighs

  • Buttocks

  • Hips

  • Upper arms

  • Breasts

  • Back

  • Calves

How soon will I see results?

Optimal results typically become visible after 4 to 6 weeks, as the skin undergoes its natural healing and regeneration process.

How long do the results last?

Results from ISR are permanent.

Are there any risks or side effects?

ISR is generally safe, but potential side effects may include:

  • Temporary redness and swelling

  • Mild discomfort during the procedure

  • Risk of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, particularly in individuals prone to such conditions (a test patch would be done prior)

A thorough consultation will help assess any risks based on your skin type and medical history.
